Next door to us is the cutest little dog–Honey! She has been the star of the show when Ranger does his science. She spends her days happily going in an out of the house in a fenced in yard to keep her safe. She is Ranger’s best dog friend. Our neighborhood is relatively litter free and everyone seems to take the time to recycle. But recently, Honey had an issue. Upset and barking she was found like this (see above picture to left) standing in her safe, secluded yard. How does this happen?
All we can figure out is that a discarded water bottle made it into her backyard, weathered and cracked over time, and she stepped through it. I was naively shocked to see photo. Obviously, nowhere is safe from the litter that gets lost or deliberately thrown out. It is so sad on so many levels. Humans–we need to do better.
I am happy to report, that after a bit of time, Honey was freed from her plastic leg “guard.” Honey suffered a couple of says with a bit of a limp and a sore leg, but is now recovered.
I’m not recovered. I just keep thinking how we can do better. Use reusable water bottles, cover your recycling bin so the things in it do not blow away. Try to move completely away from plastic in your life, demand that everything has a deposit for return in every state. What else can we do. Think!
