Adventure to a Fire Tower–Kaibab National Forest

Went for a drive to find a fire tower–sure enough, we did. I know it is a challenge when my husband says as he is climbing,” This is really, really steep'” I watched from the ground as my family began climbing. I could tell by the slow pace that it was not exactly an easy trek and a bit nerve wracking. The entrance to the top was locked so they were unable to get to the safety of the closed in section. While waiting for them, I observed as I stated, “the biggest pile of animal poop that I had ever seen…” My husband asked from above, “does it have hair in it?” I knew where he was going with that question and observed that indeed, there was no hair in it…it was cow poop. The fire tower hike included an interpretive trail about mistletoe, that evil parasite… (see third photo) All mistletoes are parasites that infiltrate their hosts branches and steal water and nutrients from them. I would have never really noticed it without the trail signs. Now I cannot help but look for it everywhere! The fourth picture in the series of four is actually a cactus. While it may look like something else, I promise it is a cactus! It was awesome to find in the middle of a forest an extremely informative little loop trail that was full of information that could be readily observed immediately in front of you! Awesome!
