I imagined these are little tiny horns used by forest fairies to play their tunes, but in reality they are lichen-a mutualistic relationship between and algae and a fungus. In fact, they are called Trumpet Lichen. (Cladonia fimbriata) These tiny cup shaped lichen appear to be soft, but in reality are a bit hard and rough around the outside. They are commonly found on the forest floor or rotting logs. This picture was taken in the Adirondacks of New York State.
Sometimes, you just need to stop, look at the little things in life and take notice. You never know what you might discover if you take a moment and just slow down.
